Launch 'Long Codes aka Long Numbers' Blog

What's in a name? A name should convey meaning to your audience. If someone knows about the ten digit alternative to short codes, then you have probably heard of long codes. Long Codes is a good name because it is evident right away that these are not short codes. But why do we call them codes? They are not codes, but numbers. A common short code in the US is a number comprised of 5 or 6 digits, not starting with a 0 or 1. So why aren't they called short numbers? I have no idea.
We could just call them long numbers. A Long Number in this context in the US is a 10 digit number, although you might say it is an 11 digit number if you count the 1 as 1-202-545-1414.
On this blog, we will call them long codes and long numbers interchangeably.
We recommend you go to www.longnumbers.com to learn more about long codes.
